The Smokies is the perfect destination for travelers looking for a destination that’s filled with fall fun, foodie favorites, and fantastic views of colorful foliage. Whether you just want to take in the views or you’re looking for an exciting seasonal event to attend, you can do it all during fall in the Smokies. To help you plan the perfect trip, we’ve made a list of the top 3 things to do in the Smoky Mountains in the fall.

1. Take a Hike

The trails are calling! As the summer heat and humidity begins to fade, the cool temperatures of autumn begin to arrive in the hills of East Tennessee. The cooler weather and stunning fall colors create the perfect atmosphere to experience time on the trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. During your stay at our Sevierville hotel you’ll be just a short drive away from some of the best hikes in the Smokies. In the national park you’ll find that Trillium Gap Trail, Rainbow Falls Trail, Baskins Creek Trail, and Ramsey Cascades offer up both autumn beauty and a stunning waterfall. The Sugarlands Valley Nature Trail, Little River Trail, and Gatlinburg Trail are perfect for an easy afternoon stroll. If you’re up for a more challenging hike, then lace up and make the trek up to the summit of Mount LeConte. As the third highest peak in the Smokies, Mount LeConte offers gorgeous views of the fall foliage.

2. Go Leaf Peeping

Gatlinburg Space Needle during fall

Year after year, autumn in the Great Smoky Mountains attracts leaf peepers into town from all over the country. Here in the Smokies you can take in fantastic views of the fall foliage by hiking the trails but you also have many other options as well. Next door to our hotel is the Five Oaks Riding Stables and the perfect spot for combining leaf peeping with the wonderful adventure of going horseback riding. During your time with us, you’ll be able to access some of the best scenic drives in the Smokies as well. The Roaring Fork Motor Trail, Newfound Gap Road and Little River Road are less than 30 minutes away. You can also take Wears Valley Road in Pigeon Forge and connect to the Foothills Parkway, a stunning drive that can easily be combined with a trip to Cades Cove. Visiting local attractions is also a great way to take in the season. Gatlinburg SkyLift Park, Anakeesta, Gatlinburg Space Needle, and Ober Gatlinburg are all some of the best things to do in the Smoky Mountains in the fall to take in the fall leaves.

3. Experience the Events

Folks in the Smoky Mountains love to find a reason to celebrate the seasons by putting together some extra fun opportunities for both locals and guests. Throughout fall in the Smoky Mountains, you’ll find event after event going on in Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and surrounding areas.
