Are you planning a trip for the first time to Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains? There are countless attractions, shops, natural wonders, historical spots, and restaurants in the area. However, here are 3 things to do that you won’t want to miss as a first-time visitor!
1. Have a Dolly Day
Dolly Parton is certainly America’s sweetheart today but long before the world knew of her, she was Sevier County’s sweetheart and songbird. Growing up in the hills of the Smokies wasn’t easy for Dolly but life here inspired some of her best songs. Mix that inspiration with strong family values that will forever be rooted in the Smoky Mountains and Dolly grew up to be a phenomenal woman. If you’re visiting the area for the first time be sure include a “Dolly Day” at the top of your list. Take time to visit Dolly’s statue in downtown Sevierville and spend at least one day at Dollywood. As our guest you’ll have access to discounted tickets and though you’ll enjoy saving money, you’ll find that the memories you make at Dollywood will be absolutely priceless. Dollywood is the perfect destination for guests of all ages and is known as being the friendliest theme park in the country. 40 world-class rides, daily shows, top dining experiences, special events happening every season, and more guarantees that every member of your family or group will find something that they love at Tennessee’s top theme park. Visiting during the warmer months? Add a day at Dollywood’s Splash Country to your itinerary!
2. Enjoy a Day in the National Park
A trip to Pigeon Forge and the Smokies isn’t complete without at least one full day in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Take a drive along the Foothills Parkway, explore Cades Cove, take in a sunrise or sunset at Clingmans Dome, wander the Roaring Fork Motor Trail, trek up to Mount LeConte, hike to waterfall, visit historical structures located throughout the park, or take a stroll on one of the quiet walkways. There are countless ways to spend your time in the park and if you need any help with planning your visit, stop in at the NOC in Gatlinburg. They’re located next to the Gatlinburg entrance of the park and their knowledgeable staff will be happy to help you plan a hike, collect any maps and info that you may need, or help you with renting or purchasing gear for your adventures. You can also set up rafting trips and guided hikes at the NOC. Sugarlands Visitor Center is located near the entrance of the park as well and the rangers and volunteers there can also help you with detailed info that you need for a safe and fun trip in the most visited national park in the country.
3. Experience Five Oaks
If you love the idea of having a local and authentic lodging experience during your time in the Smoky Mountains, stay at our hotel during your first trip to town. The Lodge at Five Oak’s address says Sevierville, but we’re just a stone’s throw away from the Pigeon Forge line and you can be at any spot that you want to visit in Pigeon Forge in no time at all. Our hotel and the businesses next to us were all created as a way to pay tribute to our owners’ grandparents that once lived here and called the Five Oaks Farm home. The properties are also designed to give guests a chance to learn about the history of the Smokies, a taste of Appalachian culture and that provide a reflection of their deeply rooted family values. Stay with us, dine at the Five Oaks Farm Kitchen, take in all that the Ogle Brothers General Store has to offer and ride horses at Five Oaks Riding Stables. If that’s not enough, wrap up the day with an ice cream cone from Cruze Farm Dairy as you relax in a rocking chair and take in stunning views of the Great Smoky Mountains.
