Are you heading to the Smoky Mountains for a winter getaway in January? If so, here are 10 things that you’ll want to add to your itinerary!

1. Ring in the New Year

Since 1987 visitors from all over the world have rang in the new year with a spectacular celebration in downtown Gatlinburg. This year, join in for the annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and Fireworks Show!

2. Experience an Enchanted Winter at Anakeesta

Anakeesta is one of the most loved attractions in the Smokies and will be having their Enchanted Winter Celebration until February 17th. Take a trip up to the top, join in with the winter fun and take in the incredible views of the Great Smoky Mountains.

3. Wander Through the Lights of Winterfest

Another event that will be going on throughout the entire month of January is the annual Winterfest. Bundle up, grab some hot chocolate and head out after sunset to take in the beautiful displays of lights that can be found in Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg!

4. Take in Some Trolley Time Among the Lights

Guests that enjoy seeing the lights will also have a wonderful time on the Gatlinburg Trolley Ride of Lights that will run every Saturday during the month of January. The ride admission is $10 but includes a costumed storyteller as a guide, hot chocolate and a special token to commemorate the occasion.

5. Hit the Snowy Slopes of Ober Gatlinburg

Are you hoping to play in some snow while you’re in town? If so, you’ll definitely want to make plans to head up to Tennessee’s only ski resort, Ober Gatlinburg. You’ll find winter fun in all forms! Skiing, snowboarding, tubing, ice skating and many other activities can be enjoyed at Ober!
